Telemetry Link and MAVLink
TIP
MAVLink is the protocol unmanned systems use to talk to a ground station. This page covers setting up the link (radio telemetry, network, USB) and the MAVLink parameters.
Overview
CUAV® controllers talk to a ground station (Mission Planner, QGC or LGC) over a serial port (TELEM1/TELEM2), the network (ETH) or USB. Everything they exchange runs on MAVLink.
Serial
SERIAL0: console, which is USB.SERIAL1: Telemetry1.SERIAL2: Telemetry2.SERIALx_PROTOCOL: the protocol on that port (1 = MAVLink1, 2 = MAVLink2, 5 = MAVLink2, and so on).
Network
- The controller can reach a ground station over its Ethernet port.
- Set up a network serial or UDP connection in Mission Planner with the right IP and port.
- See Ethernet configuration.
Common MAVLink parameters
SERIALx_BAUD: serial baud rate.SERIALx_OPTIONS: extra serial options, such as flow control.SYSID_THISMAV: this vehicle's system ID.MAV_COMP_ID: component ID.
NOTE
MAVLink2 gives you more — message signing and larger payloads among them. On long-range links, drop the baud rate or use a more robust encoding.
